Ice skating opportunities are plentiful at the UIUC Ice Arena. UIUC's synchronized skating team is nationally ranked, and their performers have competed at the world and national levels. Tickets to UIUC’s spring show cost $5 for general seats and $7 for reserved tickets.

University of Illinois Ice Arena

Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena, also called the Big Pond is an ice rink. It is owned and operated by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It hosts many events, including ice hockey.

Opportunities to skate

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's ice arena is open to the general public. There are several steps to follow if you want to host a group event at this rink. First, make a reservation. Visit the Illini Union's RSO Office in Room 284 to make a reservation. A list of participants must be provided when you reserve ice. In addition, you'll need to arrange for a supervisor to be at the rink to answer any questions you may have during the rental period.

Center Ice Cafe

The University of Illinois Ice Arena's Center Ice Cafe is open to the public. The cafe is situated adjacent to Customer Service Office. There is also an Ice Arena Pro Shop, which stocks a wide selection of hockey and skating accessories.


Free skate trainers

Champaign is home to the University of Illinois Ice Arena. It is owned and operated by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The ice arena can be accessed by the public throughout the year at no cost. The public is welcome to use the rink for their figure skating and skateboarding skills.

Spring show

The UIUC Ice Arena spring show is rapidly approaching. This show will feature local skaters, as well as a nationally-ranked team of synchronized skaters. Many of these skaters have competed at the national and world levels. Tickets for the event are $5 for general seating and $7 if you reserve seating.

Gas leak at UI Ice Arena

Following a gas leak at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's ice arena, an Illini-Alert was issued by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The building was evacuated at 406 E. Armory Ave. after Ameren Illinois crews discovered a leak. To prevent further contamination, firefighters closed off a sideway leading to arena. The leak appears to have originated below the building.
