Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island boasts some of the best offshore diving sites. To reach these sites, visitors can board a visiting boat. These dive sites are often rugged and make great hunting and photography spots. In addition, there are many healthy kelp beds and purple hydro coral in these areas. Moreover, the visibility here is excellent for Southern California waters.

The island offers kayaking and snorkeling for visitors. You can even tent camp, if the weather allows. A large pinniped population also calls the island home, including harbor seals, northern elephant seals, and California sea lions. Visitors can spot these animals in the rocky areas around the sea lion rookery, which are located at a number of overlooks on the island.

Anacapa Island

Anacapa Island has a diverse marine life. One of America's first Marine Protected Areas can be found in this region. The area offers diving opportunities that are both excellent for experienced and beginners. The waters around the island have a moderately warm temperature, which makes them ideal for wetsuit diving. The surface temperature can reach as high as 70°F (21°C) during the summer and fall. In the winter, temperatures can plummet to 50°F (10°C). Using a 7mm wetsuit is recommended. During these months, visibility is at least 100ft (30M).

Access to Anacapa's dive site can be made by charter boats or the Island Packers. You will find many dive sites on the island, including a 40-foot tall arch rock. These sites can also be viewed from the surface using snorkeling gear.
