Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island offers some outstanding offshore dive locations. To get to these dive spots, visitors can board a visiting vessel. These areas are great for photography and hunting, as they are usually very rocky. These areas also have healthy kelp beds, purple hydro coral, and other natural resources. It is also a great spot for swimming in Southern California waters.

On the island, visitors can also participate in kayaking and snorkeling. Tent camping is possible if it's allowed by the weather. The island is home to a large population of pinnipeds including harbor seals and northern elephant seals as well as California sea lions. These animals can also be found in the rocky areas around a sea lion rookery. They are located at many overlooks on island.

Anacapa Island

There is a wide variety of marine life on Anacapa Island. One of the United States' first Marine Protected Areas is located in this area. This area offers great diving for both beginners and seasoned divers. The waters around the island have a moderately warm temperature, which makes them ideal for wetsuit diving. In late summer and autumn, the surface temperatures can reach 70°F (21°C). However, temperatures can drop to as low as 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) in the winter months. Using a 7mm wetsuit is recommended. Visibility is usually at least 100 feet (30M) during these months.

You can reach Anacapa by diving charter boats as well as the Island Packers. There are many dive sites on the Island, including a 40-foot high arch rock. These sites can also be viewed from the surface using snorkeling gear.
